How to find the best East Anglian Drainage Contractor
So, you’ve got a construction project and you need a competent drainage contractor to install the drains and sewage connections?
Whether it’s a commercial or domestic project, if you’re in the East Anglia area of the UK you need to choose one that’s an Anglian Water approved contractor or things may take longer than you expected.
Let’s take a look at why that is, and also look at some other things you should take into consideration when choosing a drainage contractor…
Anglian Water Approved
In East Anglia, if you use a contractor that hasn’t been approved by Anglian Water, you’ll need to contact Anglian Water before any work commences and show them the following documentation:
- Details of previous sewer connection works done by your contractor, along with the dates, methods used, and types of connections.
- A quality assurance statement in respect of the company’s previous work
- A minimum of 2 personnel with specific confined space training
- The Health and Safety Policy of the contractor you’re using
- Their public liability insurance with a minimum cover of £5 million
On top of all this, you’ll need to notify Anglian Water before you start work in any sectored area, and get the work inspected to make sure it meets the standard required.
That’s a lot of messing about, so using an approved contractor makes sense, for your peace of mind as well as your timescales. They’ll be able to crack on with the work, and provide you with the relevant certification upon completion of the job.
Other things to take into consideration
Aside from Anglian Water approved, what other things should you consider before choosing a drainage contractor to work with?
Firstly, do they have a lot of experience?
Just because someone has the necessary qualifications it doesn’t mean they’ve been ‘on the tools’ for long. An experienced contractor will have ‘been there and done that’ and is unlikely to come across any situation they haven’t seen, and solved, before. This will no doubt mean faster solutions, and less down-time.
Secondly, are they specialists?
A ‘specialist’ drainage contractor will have more knowledge than a company who offer it ‘on the side’. Ask to see qualifications, references, and jobs they’ve done in the past. A good company will have no objection to this and you’ll get peace of mind.
