When might you need a professional civil engineer?
Over the last few decades, property prices have been steadily rising. Even now, after all the Brexit uncertainty, mortgage lenders are reporting that house prises are again going up at a rate of knots. All of this is good news for homeowners looking to make a profit and is also encouraging people to invest in their property to try and add value.
However, what many people don’t realise is that when they undertake these building projects, they may need to use a civil engineering firm in order to make them legal and to the required standard. Often, homeowners don’t realise until well into the project that a civil engineer might be required, by which time sourcing one can be very difficult.
Without thorough planning and the advice of a trained civil engineer, projects can run into difficulties. With this in mind, we have created the following list of situations when a civil engineer might be required for your domestic project.
When building a bridge over water for access to property Waterways need to be able to run freely and are often publicly owned, so any building work to divert or cover them needs the skills of a civil engineer.
Septic system
If you are installing a septic system as part of your build then you need to utilise the services of a civil engineer. It also applies if you are connecting to any municipal sewer system.
Buildings near water
If constructing a dock or any other major structure that involves construction on or near wet ground civil engineering contractors are required.
Surveys
A civil engineer is needed to survey the land for flood elevations and property lines before construction starts.
As you can see, there are multiple reasons for requiring a civil engineer that affect different kinds of building projects. If you are planning a build, it may well be worth utilising their services in good time to avoid any unnecessary delays down the line. Civil engineers are incredibly valuable for any sewer construction or repair job that you may undertake.
